Hello Again,
As you are visiting this page I can only assume that you are curious
about Andrew, the Photographer, and
the owner of Photog-wings.com.
"I think if I would die
tomorrow I would come back as a bird" *
Why do I specialize in aviation?
Ever since I was a small child aviation has intrigued me. I can still remember the excitement I felt
when as a young child I traveled to the then brand new Dulles Airport, just
outside Washington Dc, from London's Heathrow Airport. This was in October of 1969,
and little did I, or anyone else in my family know then, that my
obsession with flight was just beginning; and it would continue to haunt
me for almost 40 years!
Are you a pilot?
This is one of the first questions people always ask me when they
find out about my passion, and start looking at my images. The
simple answer is: No. Though I have often thought about taking lessons. The
truth is as much as I would like to learn, I am probably just a little too
absentminded to be a safe pilot.
Myself and photography...
Many years ago when I first started getting into photography, I began by
shooting nature, and about a hundred other non aviation subjects.
That was fun, and I still do occasionally shoot those subjects. However
despite receiving several minor awards, and numerous complements; the excitement and the
challenge just wasn't there... So the next logical thing was to combine the
two passions that drive me; photography and aviation.
My obsession with creating the perfect image, and capturing what I feel
when I am shooting is so strong; that on my days off it is not unusual
to find me practicing the various techniques I employ on
assignments shoots. A photographer whose work really doesn't
impress me, once remarked that he "doesn't need to practice his skills,
because he knows how to take a good photo". My obvious thought is
that is probably why his photographs do not impress me. Any
skill that involves eye hand coordination, creative problem resolution
skills must be practiced if you are to become proficient at it.
Especially if involves aviation where there is always a certain amount
of speed and danger involved. I have seen this demonstrated
over and over in my life.
There are a lot of police helicopters
featured on
your website.
"Are you a police officer?"
The answer is no I am not, and probably never will
be. However working with the various police departments has taught me
quite a bit about the officers themselves and the sort people employed
in airborne law enforcement, albeit
from a slightly unique perspective. Speaking for myself I
will forever be indebted to those officers who have been kind enough to
indulge my aviation passions. Many of these officers I am proud to call my
friends.
Hopefully I have answered your questions, but if you have any more
please E-mail me from the link above.
