PhotoLinks Photography Network

PhotoLinks.net is a vast network of professional photographers and related organizations.  IF you are looking for a specialist.  A visit to their site should be one of the first places you should look.

Photo Workshops
Blue Ridge Work Shops
http://blueridgeworkshops.com/

I have known Elliot Stern  the owner of Blue Ridge workshops for about 11 years and he has been involved with photography for over 50 years.  He is a friend, a superb  teacher, and his company features some of the best lecturers in the business.

 Photo Equipment Links
Canon
 www.canonusa.com

These days I am a Canon Shooter.  My bag includes 3 EOS film
and 3 EOS Digital SLR cameras, plus numerous flashes and lenses.  It is
the number one choice for sports and aviation photographers every where.

Nikon

www.nikonusa.com

If I didn't own a Canon, I would very happily own a Nikon.  Ever notice how many wedding and portrait photographer's shoot Nikon?  Ever wonder why?  Quite simply Nikon's Speed Light flash system is the most accurate ever produced.

Tamron Lenses
www.tamron.com

I have owned several of their lenses over the years.  Today their 17-50 2.8 lens has become my first choice for a general purpose lens D/SLR Lens.  It's light, fast and covers a very useable range.  I also rather like their new 70-200 2.8 lens.

Epson
www.epson.com

My first choice for photo quality inkjet printers and scanners, and they have been for the past 14 years.  Presently four of their printers are hooked up to my PC and a fifth is attached to my Mac.  Additionally I also have two of their scanners hooked up.

LowePro Camera Bags
www.lowepro.com

Most of my bags these days are LowePro.  They are well designed and
extremely hard to to kill.  I have had their bags buried in soft sloppy
mud, doused and melted with jet fuel, and on one occasion even dropped in 2 feet of water at the beach.  Yet every time my gear made it home safely.

Tamrac Camera Bags
www.tamrac.com

I am huge fan of the Tamrac roller bags.  Unlike many other camera bag
manufactures, their rollers are designed to be a rolling camera bag.  In addition  to their bags I am especially fond of the their N-45 and N-5059 leather padded camera straps.  These straps are on all my cameras, they are light and very hard wearing.

Think Tank Photo Bags
www.thinktankphoto.com

Extremely well made with lots of refinements. Think Tank bags are some of the most  innovative camera bags ever designed. I am big fan of their Urban Disguise series and they have with out a doubt the best Lap Top bag I have every owned.

SanDisk
www.sandisk.com
The brand of compact memory cards and card readers I use
most often.   I prefer the Extreme III series myself.

Bogen Photo Supports
www.bogenimaging.us/Jahia

The Gitzo and Manfrotto lines are easily the most popular and well made
Pro Tripods and lighting stands available today.  Bogen also  distributes
several other very interesting lines of products.

Nik Software
www.niksoftware.com

Contrary to the popular belief they are not a part of  Nikon.  However they did write Nikon's Capture NX software.  As well as quite a few Adobe Photoshop plug ins.  I am especially fond  of the new Viveza software.  The also feature many trial versions of their titles.

Adobe
www.adobe.com

I presently use Adobe CS3, Elements 7 and Lightroom.  However Adobe is the parent company that is responsible for a vast number of software titles that you may or may not even know that you use.   I just wish I had the time and money to learn Flash and Dreamweaver, both of which seem to offer so much potential for my world.

Online Photo Resources

DP Review
www.dpreview.com

Though it's not quite as exciting as it was a few years ago; DPReview is still considered by many to the single best online Digital Camera Resource.  Almost always the first  with the news on new announcements.  It is also one of the few websites that I check on  a daily basis.

Steve's DigiCams
www.steves-digicams.com

Another excellent on line resource for the latest reviews and information...

Rob Galbraith.com
www.robgalbraith.com/
This is a big Canon site but also features lot's of news
covering the latest developments in digital photography.

Photo.net
http://photo.net

Photo.net is an amazing resource featuring anything
from camera reviews to image critiques, and just about anything
else photo related.

Camera Clubs in Northern Virginia

Loudoun
Photography Club
www.loudounphoto.com.

I am not a member of any of these camera clubs. However
every year  they do a joint nature photo show at Meadow Lark
Gardens in Vienna Virginia.  Which is a must  see if you like nature photography.   If you live in the Northern Virginia -Washington DC Area and are interested associating with like minded photogs, a visit to one
these camera clubs maybe for you.

Web Site Hosting

Crosswinds
www.crosswind.net

Jenn and the team over at Crosswinds have always provided me with sterling service. I really can't say enough about these guys and have tried several hosting services.  Speaking for myself I will forever be indebted to her both for her kindness and her extraordinary patience.

E-Blogger
www.bloggger.com

This where I host my blog.  Surprisingly simple to set up, and
use it is  part of the Yahoo network.

Online Photo Exhibition Sites

flickr
www.flickr.com/

Flickr is a free image sharing resource aimed at both amateurs, hobbyists
and pros alike.  Here you can study other peoples images and interact with  photographers with interests similar to your own.   If you decide you like it (or can get a sponsor) there is a fee based pro service that has expanded capabilities.  It's also part of the yahoo network.  If you search for me under the name Photogshangar you can see some other images that I created.

PBASE
www.pbase.com

PBase doesn't cost anything to view, but it is a pay service if you contribute.  In many ways it is very similar to Flickr, however the over all image quality tends to be higher.  Over there you will find for example a lot more fine artist, and professional photographers images.

Photo Sharing and Print Services

Penn Prints
www.penncamera.com

Penn Camera is my local photo retailer that also features a photo sharing
and printing service; Penn Prints.  Their lab techs produce high quality images that can be picked up in anyone of their locations.  Turn around time is usually the same or next business day.  Best of all they also offer a free 2 gigabyte online storage capability.

Kodak Gallery
www.kodakgallery.com

I have never used this service, however I know several people who have.  One of them showed me quite recently a 20x30 print that was absolutely stunning. To say I was amazed was something of an understatement.  The colours where bright and clear with none of the usually flattening of the image that I often associate with lab prints.  I actually has got me thinking about submitting one or two images myself just to see what they could do for me.
